On Wednesday, November 11, 2015 veterans gathered here at Medina High School for both coffee and donuts in the Media Center and a special assembly.

The coffee was hosted by Young Americans for Freedom. At the coffee, Mr. Shaun Coon, a four year veteran of the Navy, shared his experiences.

The assembly opened with students joining one another in the Pledge of Allegiance, all standing and reciting the words with pride and confidence.

Medina’s concert choir, led by Mr. Skidmore, then serenaded the students, teachers and veterans with our national anthem.

Two veterans gave heartfelt speeches, Mr. Cockstein and Mr. Shane Jenkins.

Mr. Cockstein spoke about his time in the service and read a poem titled I am an American Flag.

Mr. Shane Jenkins took to the podium and spoke about what it meant to him to be in the service.  He discussed his three years in Guantanamo for the Army.

The concert choir closed out the assembly with a medley of songs saluting the Army, Marines, Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force to the tune of America The Beautiful.
