Poetry Out Loud

Elizabeth Rose McMillan, 2016 Poetry Out Loud winner

On February 2,  Medina High School students performed live poetry at Poetry Out Loud.

The event was coordinated by Ms. Zavesky. Ms. Hufford served as Master of Ceremony with help from judges Ms. Bolek, Mrs. Kriner, and Mrs. Offenberger.

Competitors are rated based on their performance and pronunciation.

Students had to memorize two poems then recite them with the least amount of help; however there was a prompter if needed. Ms. Zavesky would give the readers hints if they forget parts of their poem. Every time they asked for help, they lost the points.

The winners were picked, even though it was a difficult choice.

Kriner said, “I was impressed with all the students, but especially those who came out on top.”

McMillan is going to the regional competition in Cleveland at the Cleveland Public Library on March 3rd. If she places in one of the top three spots, McMillan will then advance onto States in Columbus on March 19th.
Congratulations to McMillan, Gibeault, Franks and also to all the other performers: Anna Cirkova, Emma Clardy, Katonna Grays, Sarah Hoag, Michael LoSchiavo, Timothy Maynard, Christopher Mullens, Joey Puma, Ilexis Pruitt, and Alex Stan.
