Pablo’s Life

Kanye’s tribulations with his newest album

Ye, Yeezy, The Louis Vuitton Don, and Konman, all of which are nicknames of the majestic Kanye West. Aside from his powerful raps, West also is a fashion designer and entrepreneur. Married to the famous Kim Kardashian, Mr. West is right in the middle of mainstream fame. Which makes anything he does very well known.

On February 14th, 2016, Kanye West released his seventh studio album, “The Life of Pablo.” Many delays came along with the album as it’s original release was scheduled to be February 11th, but due to last minutes edits it was pushed back.

These edits included West adding some tracks not originally included. On the initial release date, West tweeted that the album would be released the next day.

As that time came, still no album was to be seen. After some time of leaving the public in the blue, West tweeted a picture of a photoshopped image of his album. Instead of the normal “The Life of Pablo” being written over the orange cover of the album, it said “Blame Chance”.

This new cover referred to Chance The Rapper, one of the artists featured on the album. Chance had held the release of the album up even further as he wanted to put some last minute edits on one of the songs, WAVES. Once these edits were complete, the album was finally released.

The setbacks did not end there. West refused to put his album on iTunes or the Google Play Store.  The album was only made available through Tidal, a high definition music streaming program.

Naturally, the public was not happy with this financial move by Kanye, as Tidal currently has no free subscriptions. Even so, Tidal purchases on the app store increased greatly.

West was so proud of this that he tweeted, “Man thank you so so so much everyone for signing up to Tidal. Tidal is now the number one app in the world!!!”

Even with all these album sales, Kanye is still having trouble making money. He tweeted, “I write this to you my brothers while still 53 million dollars in personal debt… Please pray we overcome… This is my true heart…”

West followed these posts by tweeting at Mark Zuckerberg, creator of Facebook, asking him for one billion dollars to help him get back on his feet.

Many have raised questions as to whether or not Kanye is actually in debt, or is using these tweets as a brilliant way to gain more attention.

West  has also tweeted how he is “personally rich” and “can buy furs and houses for my family”.

Even though the album is hard to download without paying for it, people are still finding ways, as there have been over 500,000 illegal downloads of it.

Whether you’re a Kanye West fan or not, the album appeals to those with an open mind to unusual music. Although the profanity of it may draw some away, Tidal’s app sales show that it is making progress, even though it isn’t available any other legal way.
