Medina swimmers to represent at State Tournament

Last week  43 coed swimmers and divers from Medina High School faced off against swimmers from across Northeast Ohio, racing to claim a lane in this weekend’s State Tournament.

Five swimmers are moving on to States to be held in Canton, Ohio February 26-27. These swimmers are Lexi Agee, Josh Burns, Anthony Petruzzi, Spencer Savage, and Derek Walker.

Burns, Petruzzi, Savage and Walker hold the pool and school record for the 400 relay.

According to Petruzzi, “We all have another year together so we can all get even better.”

“I’ve been wanting to go to States since elementary,” continued Petruzzi, who also holds the pool record for the 500m and this past weekend became the 500 school record holder. “It still hasn’t hit me that I’m going.”

To prepare for this weekend the swimmers are working on explosions and taking it easy so they can achieve their fastest times.

“Swimming is such a big time commitment,” said Petruzzi. “You have to do all your homework early so you can go to bed early.”

The swimmers were sent off from MHS on Thursday, ready to show off all their hard work.

Best of luck to the swimmers competing this weekend.
