Gay-Straight Alliance

Gay Straight Alliance is a Medina High School club for anyone in support of the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community. Many people go to GSA to be in a fun and comfortable environment.

“It’s just an accepting place for LGBT people to hang out and not be afraid of being rejected by others,” said Junior Alan Daubner, a member of  GSA. “It gives LGBT people and allies a chance to meet people like themselves and learn more about the LGBT community.”

The GSA meets every month on varying days. The meetings are in room 2220 from 2:30 to 3:30.

We have meetings once a month. The next meeting is scheduled for March 17th. We will be discussing LGBT Health Awareness month and we’ll have a panel of guest speakers,” relayed Mrs. Jen Oehler, one of the GSA advisors.

GSA is mainly run by students as well as a few teacher advisors.

The leaders this year are: Clara Varndell, Tony Albery, Ngozi Williams, and Rae Hajek,” said Oehler. “Anyone who wants to support a safe and inclusive environment for all people at MHS is welcome to attend.

GSA was founded in 2011 by Ross Varndell and William St. John-Grubb at MHS.

GSA works to create a positive and safe environment for all people in the school,” said Oehler. “Our constitution states that the purpose is to provide support for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, and asexual members of the MHS student body, and to raise awareness about and combat the effects of homophobia.”
