The proposed design by Kotecki Memorials for the new monument

Medina’s Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) club  is collecting money to build a memorial in honor of Medina’s military.  Advisor Mrs. Erin Kelley and President of YAF, Senior Cole Stafford are overseeing the project.

The memorial will be located at the base of the flagpole in the Kenneth Dukes football stadium.  The memorial will be dedicated to MHS students and alumni who plan to serve,  are currently serving, or are veterans of the armed forces.

“We were approached by the local American Legion Post and they wanted us to be a part of this great monument to honor those who served the past, present, and future from Medina High School in the military,” said Stafford. “We thought it was the least we could do to give back to the great sacrifice that our soldiers and veterans make for us every day.”

The memorial itself costs about $5,000 to produce.  The club started raising money for the memorial in early March through donations and fundraising.

Stafford explained that the donors “donate out of the kindness of their hearts and their respect for our great country and its veterans”.  The memorial will include the American Legion, the VFW logo, the YAF logo, and the five logos of each branch of the American military.
