Jacob Novicky, Reporter

Ghosts, goblins, and great sports moments have all occurred on Halloween night.  Here are the top performances and spooky athletics that occurred on past Halloweens.

In 2004, the Denver Broncos lost to the Atlanta Falcons by a final score of 41-28. Denver Wide Receiver Rod Smith had nine catches for 208 yards and had an 80-yard touchdown receiving touchdown. Broncos quarterback, Jake Plummer, had a great game with 499 yards and threw four touchdowns.

Indianapolis Colts played the Chiefs on Halloween in 2004, as well. Peyton Manning and Trent Green had a quarterback duel. Peyton Manning threw for 472 yards and 5 touchdowns, and Trent Green threw for 389 yards and three touchdowns.

In 1993, the Dallas Cowboys played against the Eagles. Emmitt Smith carried the ball 30 times for 237 yards and a touchdowns in a 23-10 win.

During the 2001 World Series, game 4, the Yankees and Diamondbacks played for the first time in postseason baseball in November, and Derek Jeter hit a walk-off home run to become Mr. November.

According to Chris Landers of Cut4, “during Game 3 of the 2009 World Series, in the bottom of the fourth inning, Alex Rodríguez lined one deep down the right field line; the ball appeared to carom off the wall but replay revealed that the ball had actually hit the camera above the yellow line better known as the home run line”. This was the first postseason home run ever to be overturned on review.

Not to be outdone by baseball or the NFL, the NBA has its own fanatics performances of its own.

On Halloween night in 2009, the Spurs played against the Kings. During the first quarter of the game a bat flew slightly above the court. The game was stopped to try and catch the bat. Spurs player Manu Ginobili swatted at the bat and struck it down, saving the day!

The Milwaukee Bucks have the best record on Halloween in the NBA and the Washington Wizards have the worst.  Despite their bad luck on Halloween, the Wizards have the largest margin of victory on Halloween by beating the Boston Celtics by 45 points in 2002.

Moreover, Jerry West has the highest career point per game average on Halloween with 35 points per game. Steph Curry, however, has the most points scored in a game on Halloween, with 53 points in 2015.  He also owns the record for the most turnovers, with 11 in 2013. Shawn Bradley has the record for the most block shots on Halloween with eight in 1997. Jason Kidd has the most triple doubles and assist all time with two triple doubles and had 16 assist in 1997.

We can’t wait to see what incredible things will occur on Halloween night this year! Will new records be set?
